An artistic autumn: the exhibitions at Capodimonte

On 5 November the Museum and Royal Wood of Capodimonte opens the contemporary art season that will animate its halls and woods until 11 January. Forty works converse with the historic collections, from the Flemish masters to Caravaggio, up to Warhol and contemporary Italians.

The exhibition ticket includes the historic galleries; on Saturdays the museum stays open until 10 pm with reduced admission and audio-guide readings. The Royal Wood is about twenty minutes from the apartment by bus or taxi.

November is the right month: short queues, slanting light along the wood's avenues and Titian's room almost to yourself. For lunch the museum café looks over the park; alternatively the neighbourhood pizzeria by the entrance makes the best montanara in the area.
